Gloria

Meet Gloria, @chicchemistry, she is a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan (@uofmichigan#GOBLUE ! Her work focuses on developing microfluidic platforms to simplify and automate macro-scale assays for profiling epigenetic modifications. Her undergraduate research is in organic chemistry where she focused on synthesizing  the organocatalyst, bisphosphorylimide (BPI). After graduating from @CSUSM, she worked at @zymoresearch where she pivoted to epigenetic assay development.
Did you know that only 3% of Latina women are represented in STEM while women in total make up 24% of the STEM workforce? Because of this Gloria wants to change the stats and help increase visibility of women of color. As a Latina in science she wants to share her experience overcoming the social expectations of what a Latina woman should be as well as the stigma of how a scientist is perceived. Gloria’s go-to platform for this is @every.1matters, where the motto is ‘we imagine a world where every little girl and women of color can pursue her wildest dreams and change the world through STEM’. If you have any questions about pursuing a career in STEM, attending grad school, being a WOC in STEM feel free to reach out to Gloria.
